Crochet Fairy House

I've been busy crocheting a fairy house for a little girl we know who is currently in hospital following the most horrific surgery on a brain tumour.

Obviously, a worrying time for all. However, the little trooper has taken great comfort in believing that angels and fairies from across the globe (many sent by friends and relatives) were looking out for her during her surgery and through her post op recovery.

I'm pleased to say those fairies and angels did a great job and the op was a success, although there's till a long road to travel.

As they've worked so hard, I thought those guardian angels and fairies might like somewhere to rest up and re-charge their wings whilst they look out for our little fighter. So I've crocheted them a little house.

Fairy House

I followed a basic pattern from the Caffeine, Kids & Knitting blog, which can be found here: http://yarrrn.blogspot.co.uk/2008/02/gnome-home.html and I just improvised the rest, sometimes Googling around for patters for flowers, butterflies, etc.

I hope the fairies like it and they continue to help our friend on her long road to recovery.

Elf Shoes, possibly the cutest craft ever?

I came across this pattern for these adorable elf shoes whilst browsing round Pinterest.  They looked simple enough to make, even for a novice crafter like me!

The pattern is by Jenny b Harris of AllsortsMakery.com. Here is the link: http://allsorts.typepad.com/allsorts/2007/11/ears-to-your-el.html

Take a look round my Elf Shoe Gallery!

Elf shoes

I've made a few pairs now, and they have been very popular with my little girls. My elder girl leaves her lost baby teeth in hers for the tooth fairy to find - beats scrabbling about under her pillow to try to find a teeny tiny tooth!

Here are a couple of examples of Tooth Fairy shoes!

They also make a great birthday gift, filled with sweet treats, nail polish, lip balm - anything that will fit! Complete it with a note from the 'Birthday Fairy'!

Birthday Elf Shoes

The great thing about the elf shoes is you can really go to town with the decoration - beads, buttons, bows, tassels, charms, crystals, embroidery - release your inner elf!

You can work them for any ocassion!

Crocheted Owls

I've been trying my hand at crochet over the Christmas break.

I'm a complete novice, never having tried it before, but found it quite easy to pick up and immensely satisfying.

Here's a great project for beginners; these devastatingly cute little owls!

A Box of Owls

The pattern is simple enough for a beginner to follow. It's by Ana Clerc and can be found here:

Owl Line-Up

The pattern suggests using buttons, felt, etc for eyes.  All are good! I made my eyes by crocheting a small circle (chain 6, SC into first chain to make circle. 2 SC next 6 stitches - makes a 12 stitch circle). Sew 6mm beads onto the crochet circle, then sew onto the owl. You need to make 2 for each owl.

The beak is made from a red triangle of handmade paper, which I stitched on with red thread.

My kids absolutely adore these little fellas and are asking for them in a variety of colourways.

Good luck!

Ice Christmas - Free Christmas Printables

So, it's bloomin' freezing here in Scotland right now, and today saw our first proper snowfall of the winter.

Chaos!!

It's been a nightmare trying to get around today, but, it is very pretty! It's looking like a Winter Wonderland and inspired me to have a go at some snow-inspired Christmas labels, toppers, etc.

You can download the Ice Christmas printables here.
